Small Penis Rule
by Demosthenes on Feb.10, 2012, under Literature
The “small penis rule” is an informal strategy used by authors to evade libel lawsuits. It was described in a New York Times article in 1998:
“…For a fictional portrait to be actionable, it must be so accurate that a reader of the book would have no problem linking the two,” said Mr. Friedman. Thus, he continued, libel lawyers have what is known as “the small penis rule.” One way authors can protect themselves from libel suits is to say that a character has a small penis, Mr. Friedman said. “Now no male is going to come forward and say, ‘That character with a very small penis, that’s me!’ “[1]
The small penis rule was referenced in a 2006 dispute between Michael Crowley and Michael Crichton. Crowley alleged that after he wrote an unflattering review of Crichton’s novel State of Fear, Crichton libeled him by including a character named “Mick Crowley” in the novel Next. In the novel, Mick Crowley is achild rapist, described as being a Washington-based journalist and Yale graduate with a small penis.[2]

10 Shades of Love

New viral trend of painting your nails to match your relationship status. I’m curious to see how viral this trend goes.
“10 Shades of Love” is simply a color-coordinated system for secretly sharing your status: paint a nail on your left hand to signify the status of your current relationship. Paint a nail on your right hand to signify the status of that special someone.
From the Tumblr (http://10shades.tumblr.com/):

Jonah Mowry Has Something to Say
by Demosthenes on Dec.07, 2011, under Current Affairs
An update by Jonah Mowry, the video’s creator:
To all my friends and supporters,
I made this video 4 months ago just before school was about to start. I was 13. It was a very emotionally dark time in my life. I made the video at 4:00am in the morning; I hadn’t been sleeping at night for a long time, too many things going on in my head. I was dreading going back to school and I had not come out to my family yet. Only my closest friends knew. I didn’t know how to say what I needed to say. All I could think about were all the bad things that had been happening at school last year, every year for that matter. I just couldn’t bare to go through that anymore. I was done being fake happy, pretending hateful words didn’t hurt, done hiding it from my family. (continue reading…)

Three young siblings from Mexico are attracting heavy attention for their cover of Adele’s thumping pop anthem, “Rolling in the Deep,” to the tune of nearly 3 million YouTube pageviews in just 12 days.
Siblings Angie, Gustavo and Abelardo Vazquez — known as VazquezSounds — uploaded the video Nov. 10. Aside from netting massive pageviews, the video has helped the band’s recently created YouTube channel break into the top 40 most-subscribed channels for musicians in Mexico with 24,000 subscribers.
VazquezSounds has been featured on Good Morning America, CNN en Español and other media outlets.
Here’s a breakdown of each sibling’s age and musical talent, which is on display in the above video:
- Angie: 10, vocals
- Gustavo: 13, drums
- Abelardo: 15, piano, guitar and bass
VazquezSounds is one of many in a long list of musicians who have covered Adele’s smash hit.
