Post-It War!
by Locke on Oct.17, 2011, under Pop Culture
There’s a war raging in the offices of Paris.
The Guardian reports:
…across the French capital, the summer has been enlivened by a corporate collage contest known as La guerre des Post-it (the Post-it wars). The battle is between presumably underemployed office workers who are devoting large chunks of their days to sticking thousands of pink, yellow, orange and green notes on their windows to recreate pixelated images.
The war draws heavily on the nerd canon — lots of video games, with a little Star Wars thrown in. But there are a few surprises in the mix.
The Post-it revolution is being obsessively documented at postitwar.com (of course), which gave us permission to post some of the pictures here.
Dead Bodies on Google Street View in Sao Paulo
by Demosthenes on Oct.02, 2010, under Current Affairs
Move over City of God, Sao Paulo has taken the spotlight of Brazil’s carnage. But it’s not a former journalist cum movie director that’s sharing the vivid images of dead bodies in the street, it’s Google.
The search giant updated their Street View service to allow a guided tour of the streets of Sao Paulo, a city with roughly 900% the homicide rate of New York City. So naturally, when bodies started showing up, the world wasn’t surprised. Except that the bodies made their way onto the internet and into classrooms.
Along with decapitated corpses, the service also showed men defecating on the sidewalk. “Yes, dear. Make a left at the rolling, disembodied head, and a right at the pile of man poo…”
Photos of the bodies after the jump, if your stomach is strong enough. Or just simply click here.

The viewer enters a street address into the browser, generating a customized music video for an Arcade Fire song.

Facebook tried to buy Twitter. Google and Microsoft have been giving the red-hot Internet-messaging startup the eye. But we hear it’s Apple that’s closest to sealing a deal, possibly for as much as $700 million.
A source who’s plugged into the Valley’s deal scene and has been recruited by Apple for a senior position says Apple and Twitter are in serious negotiations, with the goal of unveiling a deal by June 8, when Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference launches in San Jose.
Twitter turned down a $500 million offer in cash and stock from Facebook, in part because Twitter’s investors couldn’t agree on whether Facebook’s stock was worth as much as Facebook said it was. But Apple could easily pay cash. A source familiar with the thinking of Twitter’s board says the company would be hard-pressed to refuse an all-cash offer in the range of $700 million. (Is Twitter really worth that? Since it’s business is nothing but a fantasy at this point, any valuation, high or low, is a matter of make-believe.)
